How to Get Hay
Direct answer
Cut medium grass (5% Hay) or large grass (7.5% Hay), including marsh grass. Small grass drops none. Hayden's Shop sells Hay for 50t. The Refinery can also turn 6 Stone into Hay in 10 minutes.
Cut wild grass
What it looks like
Grass uses a different sprite in spring, summer, fall, and winter. Marsh grass is a separate tall-grass type with the same growth stages and the same Hay drops.
Where it grows
The farm regrows grass on a 1–3 day wait, up to 6 new grass tiles per day. Marsh grass is a wild variant of the same object family. Weeds are not grass: they drop Fiber, not Hay.
How to cut it
Grass has 1 hit point, so one strike clears a tile. There is no scythe tool. A farming perk later lets the sword harvest crops quickly; that perk is for crops, not a grass requirement.

Marsh grass uses the same percentages. Season changes the look, not the drop table. Farm-state grow-back only limits how many new grass tiles appear each day.
